Cotarella

Under the «Cotarella» brand, Famiglia Cotarella runs two wineries in Umbria and Lazio.
When Riccardo and Renzo Cotarella, two superstars of the Italian wine scene, bought land in Lazio in 1979, the region was not immediately known for its quality. That was soon to change. First, «Flying Winemaker» Riccardo and his brother Renzo, now CEO of Antinori, took on white wine. Only when they were satisfied with the Est! Est!! Est!!!, which today is sold under the Falesco label, did they turn their attention to the red. They created Montiano from a special Merlot blend. And the critics were instantly unanimous: this wine is one of Italy’s great red wines.
Today, responsibility for the Cotarella operations in Umbria, Lazio and, since 2016, Tuscany, lies in the hands of Renzo’s daughters Marta and Enrica and their cousin Dominga. The three of them continue the same philosophy: solid science paired with an instinctive understanding of the terroir.

Whether «Cotarella» or «Falesco», the Famiglia Cotarella puts its heart and soul into both wine brands.
How beautiful: if you are travelling through Italy, there are two stops you can make at Famiglia Cotarella – in Umbria and Lazio. This is where Riccardo and Renzo Cotarella, two well-known and respected winemakers in Italy, laid the foundations for their success story: in 1979, they bought their first vineyard in Lazio. The star of the Tenuta? The single-variety Merlot Montiano. Perhaps you agree with the renowned critics? In their opinion, this wine is one of the greatest red wines in Italy.
