Alois Lageder

For biodynamic winegrower Alois Lageder, promoting the unity of humans, animals, plants and the universe is the key to success.
«In the 21st century, mankind has often forgotten how to grasp the connections and use the knowledge that our ancestors gained from thousands of years of observation for our work», Alois Lageder realised as a young winegrower. This realisation showed him the way to biodynamics. From the 1970s onwards, he consistently transformed the family vineyard into a living microcosm based on this holistic approach.
Today, 50 hectares of family-owned vineyards are cultivated using biodynamic methods. In practical terms, this means no synthetic chemical pesticides, herbicides, fungicides, insecticides or mineral fertilisers; instead, preparations and homeopathic teas are used. Lageder, who now works hand in hand with his son Alois Clemens, promotes biodiversity by sowing seeds and fertilising with compost. The wines, from the unpretentious Pinot grigio to the elegant top-notch Chardonnay, show their gratitude with a tremendous density, complexity and character – in short: with soul.
